Pretty darn good for a first book.
So many ideas, and he mostly pulls them off. Maybe a little rushed, as he jumps through so many plot developments, but well written with a mostly satisfying conclusion.
I would recommend it to anyone that likes first contact and exploration adventure with a smattering of human introspection and philosophy.
I was sad to see that he only wrote 4 books in total before dying young at 43.
