I was initially not going to read this with Vince Flynn being one of my all time favorite authors. The thought of someone else using Mitch Rapp as chief protagonist was both disappointing and a little painful to me, as I was fortunate enough to meet Vince a couple of years before his untimely death from cancer. My father had received this book as a Christmas gift and had read some and told me it was very, very good. I then received a copy for my birthday and decided to dive into it.
I'm very, show more very glad I did.
First off, the story is outstanding....no spoilers....bottom line: a disgruntled CIA agent has cleverly set up to have top secret details of past CIA missions made public all over the world from his grave. Familiar characters like Irene Kennedy, Mitch Rapp, Stan Hurley, et. al. all find themselves in deep trouble as the fate of the CIA is in danger from these secrets and they all try desperately to contain the damage. Add to this a plot by Pakistan for a coup to destablize the middle east and US/Pakistan relations and you have a tight, tension filled story right to the end.
Secondly, Mitch Rapp is written much in the way I remember him from early Flynn novels, a very welcome surprise. Late Flynn novels lost a bit of Rapp driving the plot throughout the books, but this one recaptures this plot driver in a big way. Rapp appears very much in command in the last 100 or so pages, even when things have basically gone to hell and no one has any idea what to do. This really carried the novel right to the end.
Lastly, this book really mirrors current world events, which to me really gives the story a degree of credibility and belief which keeps the reader engaged.
Bottom line....perhaps the best Rapp novel since Memorial Day. I am impressed with Mills writing, and I wonder if he will carry the torch for further Mitch Rapp novels. show less

Total Power by Kyle Mills, is so fabulous, that not only did it blow me away, but it scared the stuffing out of me. If this really happens, we are in so much trouble. I am proud to say that I was chosen as a Mitch Rapp Ambassador and even if I wasn’t, I would still be shouting from the rooftops how much I love this book. Total Power picks up right after Lethal Agent, and Mitch and his team is tasked once again, with saving us all.
Can you imagine what would happen to our country if our show more entire power grid was taken down and can’t be quickly recovered? Well, that is what happens in Total Power. When a CIA mission to stop an ISIS attack fails, the entire USA Power grid is not only taken down, but the estimates to bring it back up, could take months if not years. No technology is a given without power, but what about no water, fuel, food. How about how this affects our hospitals, education, economy and sanitation. Sound scary, it was something I couldn't imagine before reading this, but Kyle Mills brings this terrifying situation to life so realistically, that I had a hard time sleeping after reading this book.
One of the things I love the most about the Mitch Rapp series, is that it is so believable and current with what either is going on in our country, has gone on or could go on. In Lethal Agent, Mitch had to deal with a weaponized virus (does that make you second guess about what is going on now in our country now, even just a little bit). So while trying to help our country this time, he runs into our government dragging its feet amongst the upcoming presidential election and how every decision will reflect on the outgoing and possibly incoming government. Again, a little too real to make you feel comfortable. It almost feels as if Kyle Mills can look into our future and set the stage as to what could happen to all of us. I hope that isn’t the case with this book. Again, it was terrifying, how this can happen and how it will affect us all. All that being said, I couldn’t put this book down and read it in a day. You will be scared for, a little amused, wistful and proud of Mitch and his team in this book. I hope we really have warriors like this protecting our country.
The books Kyle writes are so well researched I was glad to read in the Author’s Note in the beginning of this book, that the details of how this could all be carried out had been purposefully fictionalized and obscured. A thriller like this, that is so incredibly realistic, you just don’t want to put out a guide as to how to destroy America.
After this one, I can not in all seriousness imagine what Kyle will come up with next for Mitch and his team to fix for America.
As with all of the books in this series, the books need to be read in order to understand all of the nuances. This is the 19th book in the Mitch Rapp series. Total Power comes out September 15th, 2020 at your favorite book stores. show less

While a factious presidential campaign consumes the United States, ISIS sets a nefarious plan in motion with the kidnapping of a French microbiologist and a plan to unleash a weaponized virus in the United States using a Mexican drug cartel to smuggle the bioweapon across the border.
Mitch Rapp may be the only operative capable of terminating the plan before Sayid Halabi wreaks havoc on the American people with a deadly pandemic. But Washington’s aristocracy continues playing their dirty show more politics and Mitch finds himself alone in his quest to save the country he loves.
In this, the eighteenth outing for Mitch Rapp, the stakes couldn’t be higher but the stark tale unfolds as fans of the series might expect. However, some surprising plot twists take the story in an unexpected direction. Readers new to the series will find sufficient backstory here; Mitch Rapp fans are likely to be thrilled with his latest adventure. It’s dark and gritty, compelling and violent, believable and terrifying. Readers will find it difficult to set this one aside before turning the final page.

Mitch Rapp is back and this time he's going rogue, not that this is a big shock to loyal readers of the late Mr. Lynn's creation. Mitch is tasked with a mission by the POTUS that can be defined on my as unorthodox to say the least. In short, hunt down and assassinate members of the Saudi royal family Why? Aren't they on our side? Well, maybe not. It seems that POTUS believes these family members are actually working with ISIS. It is soon discovered that the king’s nephew is discovered show more funding ISIS. This forces Mitch to make a life changing decision. He quits the CIA and forms what is essentially of contract killers and rogues to help him
Kyle Mills picks up the mantle left behind with Mr. Flynn's untimely death and has written a non-stop, highly readable, page turner. Enemy of the State is a volatile mix of covert ops, espionage and a take no prisoners thriller that is a great way to end your summer reading list. Fans of Mr. Flynn will not be disappointed and he himself would've probably loved this book as well. That speaks volume about the quality of Mr. Mills's writing. Highly recommend. show less
