This is the first book I have read by this author, and I plan to go back and read the others in this series, as I believe they would provide me with some background on Cassidy Kincaid.
This novel begins with Cassidy and her team finishing up camp for a geological study for the university. Cassidy needs to return home to begin prep for another study trip to Hawaii, but she is called by the university and told that one of the students on the trip never made it back to school. It seems that show more Izzy Ford left the van at one of the stops for gas, and no one noticed until too late. Now, Cassidy is tasked with finding Izzy in a race against the clock. Cassidy is pulled into a world of sex trafficking/pornography as she tries to find Izzy.
What I liked - Cassidy is strong, and has dealt with many issues, including the loss of her fiance in an earlier book. She has issues, but she is working through them. I also liked the cliffhanger ending.
What I found to be unbelievable - Cassidy was able to go to large cities and track people easily. Cassidy was able to drive everywhere on very limited sleep. She was able to handle a large motorcycle with very little experience, she went into extremely dangerous situations totally unprepared (who would do that, esp. when she knew the danger??) I found some of that to be completely far fetched. However, since I didn't have the background of the character from the previous books, perhaps I am missing something, but I still find it difficult to believe that someone would knowingly go into that situation, esp. considering her past.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with a copy of this book so that I could review it. All opinions are entirely my own.

Her Final Mistake: An addictive murder mystery with a shocking twist (Meg Dawson murder mysteries Book 1) by Amy Waeschle
A new detective star is born.
Meg Dawson was always going to be a cop, so even when that didn't work out, her investigative instincts would still help her as a journalist; help her get into trouble that is. The first of a new series begins with an unexpected death and Meg sidelined from reporting on it, but that doesn't stop her. Thrilling and compelling, Amy Waeschle has created a convincing new detective. Unputdownable, the surprises just keep coming. Excellent.

Thanks to Amy Waeschle for the audio version of her short story, Suitcases and Shadows in exchange for an honest review. This book was a nice introduction to FBI Agent Thomas Kamea. I enjoyed that the book examined a cold case, investigating the kidnapping of baby Kayla, and the subsequent murder of her father, Cedric. I also like cases that involve DNA testing.
Although the story was short, you still are given a good deal of character development and insight into the case. This is the show more perfect introduction to the next book in the series, Rescuing Reeve. I really like how Thomas is affected by this case, and the impact of Kayla's father's death on her life, leading to his career choice.
Looking forward to following Thomas on his investigations and work. show less

WHAT AN EXCELLENT BOOK! At first I was bored, but soon I felt intrigued by Cassidy's bravery by going to find her missing step-brother in a country south of the border. Cassidy is a professor of volcano seismologist, she is depressed about her fiance's death and she hopes that her research trip to her favorite site will lift her sagging spirit, but she is hounded by another family member to search for Reeve who has going missing. I felt her sorry and her concern with a step-brother that she show more rarely saw and he was known to do drugs and drop off the earth from time to time, but I sure would not go to the jungle's of Costa Rico to look by myself! This book will have readers rapidly reading and this is only BOOK ONE! show less
