Short biography
Lady Anne Hamilton was the eldest daughter of Archibald, 9th Duke of Hamilton, and a sister of Alexander, 10th duke of Hamilton, who was ambassador to Russia and a Privy Counsellor. She served Queen Caroline of Brunswick, the unloved wife of King George IV, as lady-in-waiting from the time of her marriage in 1796 until her death. A volume of memoirs purporting to be written by Lady Anne, but actually published without her knowledge, appeared in London in 1832 entitled The Secret History of the Court of England from the Accession of George III to the Death of George IV. However, she is believed to be the author of Epics of the Ton (1807). Lady Anne Hamilton died unmarried. See the elegant 1815 portrait of her by James Lonsdale.
