Good overview of Alma-Tadema and his paintings. A little dry. Alma-Tadema seems to me to have been a bit too concerned with high living and good reputation, but he was, after all, a Victorian.
Unless one dislikes Alma-Tadema's painting, it is very difficult to find fault with this lavishly illustrated volume which also contains a fine running critical commentary.
