I didn't find this anywhere near as confusing as everyone else seems to be saying it was. The art was also mostly quite good, but did suffer a touch during the action sequences.
Overall, I like what Andrasofszky is doing with the world-building here, something that, quite honestly, was sorely lacking in the "classic" Captain Canuck.

Captain Canuck was always one superhero that captured this Canadian kid's attention. I was there and still have my first issue, bought way back in July 1975. And yet, for me, it always seemed that Richard Comely, the co-creator, always held back, and Canuck never really left as much of an imprint as he could have.
The possibilities were always there, but they were never realized.
For all of that, I stayed away from this rebooted version for quite a while, simply because...well, it wasn't the show more Captain Canuck I knew.
But, I was at a con, and they had the books there, as well as the artists and writers, so I thought, hey, what the hell.
Damn, I'm glad I did.
This still isn't perfect, no, not by a long shot. Someone else, in their critique, said it was derivative, and I can't disagree. But the art is great, and, along with a completely recreated Canuck, comes recreations of Kebec and Redcoat and an exciting new setup that allows for much more action-packed stories.
And I love some of the interplay between the characters and the dialogue. As I said, it's not perfect, but hot damn, it was a lot of fun. show less

I will admit to being hopelessly lost with this one, until I went back and read the second volume, followed by the 4 issue Agents of P.A.C.T. series that leads into this. Then, it all made sense.
Yes, the story's a touch silly, but then, most are. But overall, it was fun, and got the job done, and that's all I can really ask for. And now, this all leads into Captain Canuck: Invasion!

A fun next step after [b:Captain Canuck, Vol 02: The Gauntlet|36702066|Captain Canuck, Vol 02 The Gauntlet|Kalman Andrasofszky|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1514922387l/36702066._SY75_.jpg|58501933], and the world gets just a little bigger and more complex.
