King Parsimonious makes life miserable for the servants in his crumbling castle because he is too stingy to repair the leaks or to buy firewood. One day when the servants are gone, the king has to deal with the drafts himself, and in the process catches a bad cold. He learns his lesson and repairs the palace amidst general and warm rejoicing. The king's continual alliterative outbursts of rage entertain and engage. The illustrations, in attractive tones of turquoise, mauve, and peach, are show more wonderful. show less
