"Crazy, VA" by Shannon Hill
There is a genre of mystery known as "cozy mysteries", centering around small towns and villages. Traditionally, cozy mysteries are associated with Agatha Chrstie's Miss Marple stories, but in recent decades they have made their way more and more into American fiction. This is one such story, and it does not disappoint.
Littlepage Eller, an outcast born of two families who traditionally feud over who is the more important to the small town of Crazy by funding show more expensive building projects, is the new sheriff. She recently returned to her hometown after a stint in the FBI, and is still settling in when her cousin, Lisa Littlepage, is murdered. Dealing with the Littlepage family's closed ranks, Sheriff Lil finds an unexpected ally in a feral tomcat, whom she names Boris. Boris shows a penchant for loyalty rivaling that of a police K9, and his catty personality and antics make this a story worth reading. While cat owners like myself would find this story especially charming, I expect anyone who likes mysteries would be pleased with it.
The only caveat I would add: there is a smattering of foul language, of the sort that would be censored from primetime network TV. For those who find this offensive, I would recommend consideration before purchasing this book. show less

This was a good fast read. Some of the details weren't needed but overall I was satisfied with the writing and the story. I was racking my brain with all of the clues trying to solve the murder right along Lil'. Not totally convinced of the killer and I believe the act of suicide was so the reader would never get to find out the truth and was left with the lemming possibilities of did she or not.
I was prepared for the typical cute cat mystery. This was funny and had depth. The character development was excellent and I quickly devoured all of the series. Hoping for more.
This book is WAY BEYOND AMAZING!
A book of SIMPLE WORDS to "shape, create, interpret, and enjoy the reality of our lives."
This book starts with a VERY FUNNY story of a person who very much needs to buy strawberries and toilet paper ...two simple things.
And as they are emptying the bags from the grocery store they realize...
You guessed it...they FORGOT to get the strawberries and the toilet paper.
We, as humans, need reminders...post-it notes if you will.
But not only on the simple grocery show more shopping things.
How about the BIG THINGS in life.
I know for myself that I get so caught up in the little things in life I forget that simple words can help "to create happiness for me."
This book gives those words.
This book IS a book of reminders!
100 reminders in fact, here are 5 of these incredible reminders:
*I WILL think about the person (or people) I love the most, and I will treat myself with the same level of loving kindness and forgiveness that I show them.
*I WILL allow myself to discard something that hasn't been helpful to me in more than a year.
*I WILL smile with my whole body.
*I WILL receive a pleasant surprise.
*I WILL enjoy more abundance in my life--and I will be thankful each and every time.
BEAUTIFUL pictures sprinkled throughout!
Grab this book and take a look!
Focus on just ONE reminder each day!
And see if you are not happier at the end of each page.
