Short book about haunted houses in Galena Illinois. It starts off with newspaper accounts of various "hauntings" in the newspaper dating back to the 1890's. Not all of these were in fact ghost stories. One has a woman getting butted in the rear by a goat and she reports it as a horned demon who got her. Another was a man who was scarred by his neighbors who put a shirt and some eyes onto the end of a broomstick. The next story is from the historical society who actually wrote the book and show more how there are strange sounds and noises in their museum, footsteps when no one is there. Then we get into more modern day ghost stories. Most provided by the actual home owners at the time. A haunted theater where the ghost expresses his displeasure in a angry voice. An Indian boy who creeps into a bedroom that's below grade. A few where the lights go on and off on their own. Bagpipes playing in the attic. A visitor who had just passed away in CA comes to the house he stayed in sometimes in IL. Plus several more. Most of the stories had a picture of the house and/or the rooms inside that were in question. show less
