What a wonderful book of bees and really nice grand hotels. I know more about bees and beekeeping now than I would ever have to know, but the facts in this book are unbelievable and the research must have been exhausting. So happy to get the back story on the Waldorf-Astoria, and I'm sad I won't ever get to stay in the expansive hotel it was, but also happy to know that the Historical Society of NYC made sure and kept the public spaces protected for the future.
This book is certainly far better than some of the other books devoted to the birds of New York City but would have benefited from including more birds and a few less photos. That said, the photos are stunning. Coverage of the places to bird in New York City could have been better in general and in specific viz. species accounts.
New York is one of the greatest cities of the world. It is also an urban forest with more than 5 million trees. But if you haven’t paid much attention to your street trees, you’re not alone. The Field Guide to the Street Trees of New York City (public library) is a good place to start.
