Gary Ponzo has always impressed me with his writing, but The Last Mountain Gorilla completely took me by surprise. I did not know what to expect, and at the end it had me in tears--not many authors have evoked such emotion from me in just a short story. There was so much wrapped up in this story, I just did not know where Ponzo was going with it until the very end. The other two bonus stories were also very good, well thought out stories in themselves. Again, this author has the gift of show more springing these endings out of nowhere--I guess that is why HE writes and I read and I will continue to read his books. show less
Sometimes the action was just too... much... the bad guy(s) were nearly unlimited. One gets killed, no worries, another swappable bad guy filled in for the next scene. We know the main character was not going to be defeated because he had so many minions ready to take a bullet on his behalf. Someone had to die in each scene, but fortunately it was not Nick, nor the main bad guy (until the final battle that is).

That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the story, I did... it was just on the Bourne show more side of the ability scale and, after awhile, after the 5th or 6th conflict, it just got tiring to read another scene where the same stuff happened. There was no downtime between each event... show less

This book is great! You can read the blurbs and find out that it is about an FBI guy who ends up calling in his Sicilian family to help deal with some Kurdish terrorists. That's all very exciting but what I loved about it is that the FBI guy isn't all alpha he-man and his wife doesn't just roll up and cry when she is confronted by a terrorist. There are lots of bits and pieces to the characters that make them more real and more interesting. I highly recommend this book.
The first book was so exciting I bought book 2 without even reading a sample first. I stayed up all night reading it and then got right on Facebook to ask Gary when the next book comes out, not because it has one of those annoying cliffhangers, I just want to know what happens next. It's a fast paced shoot 'em up without gratuitous gore. It's suspenseful without being horrifying. Whoever does the editing deserves a bottle of the good stuff because I have no complaints. The only reason I show more haven't given it 5 stars is I reserve those for a very few books that really touch my heart and teach me something. show less
