A pretty good and interesting collection; I should have read it less broken up, because I think some of the history of the Vanguard feel a little broken up/unclear to me, but it's absolutely worth it for the Vanguard Revisited reprinting, because there's so much good work both from the original Vanguard and the youth involved in the Revisited project.
This zine has reprints of texts written by Vanguard, an advocacy organization run by and for queer and street youth in the Tenderloin in San Francisco in the late Sixties, as well as new texts responding to similar issues such as solidarity between queers transgender and street youth, community brutality towards these cultures, positive identity and sexuality, etc.. Original Vanguard publication artwork and new artwork are also included.
"In today's fast-paced world, the internet can provide quick answers to personal questions. But when an individual raised by society to live, breathe and look at the world with female eyes transitions to male, some of the most enlightening, helpful and profound advice can only come in retrospect. "Letters for my brothers" features essays from respected transmen mentors who share the wisdom they wish they would have known at the beginning of their journey into manhood"--P. 4 of cover.
