Lionel Richie

Alabama native, and self-proclaimed "Gemini with ADHD" Lionel Richie starts his memoir at the 2015 Glastonbury Festival, then embarks on an extended flashback over his illustrious life (the bulk of the book), coming full circle back to the Festival, and proceeding, more briefly, up until 2025. As someone who grew up listening to his music, I was keen to dive into his thoughts and reflections over the events of his life and career. I came away with the realization (for me, anyway) that he is show more just as much an engaging and talented storyteller as he is a skilled and justly celebrated songwriter and singer. This memoir is filled with love (you could say he is an ambassador of love), gratitude, good-will, humor, and thoughtful philosophical musings. And he reveals some interesting tidbits about his own songwriting process. Fascinating stuff. My only complaint (or pet peeve) is that there is a bit too much time and attention given to encounters with many other celebrities, world leaders, etc. later in his life. I wanted to hear more about his childhood and becoming a young adult. But that is more a reflection on me. I'm glad I got to spend time with Mr. Richie and get to know him better. show less
