I liked this mystery. I loved the supporting cast--the S.F.C., really brilliant--I liked all of the mysterious goings-on at the high school, and I loved that Skyler was a bit of a man slut in that he hooked up with people, wasn't just a chaste little pup longing for one guy whom he was attracted to, and didn't feel guilt over than fact; it was a refreshing change and more realistic, especially since he didn't know if his love interest was straight or gay.
But at the same time as I was show more enjoying the rest, I just kept on thinking that Skyler was an idiot. Or at least the way he did his best to compromise the investigation over and over annoyed me. I've read many mysteries that feature MCs who weren't detectives and loved them, so maybe it was just that I took a criminal justice class this semester and understand more about police work, but Skye just bothered me and I kept on asking him, "What are you doing?" "Why aren't you calling Sidney and telling her that?" "Why aren't you understanding this?" For a solid chunk of the book it just bothered me how much he could have messed things up with his continual side investigation.
Overall, I am excited to read more, Skyler and his friends are really entertaining and great guys (and girl), and I'm curious to figure out the remaining weird goings-on. show less

This review contains major spoilers. Just scraped 4 stars for this book and a solid 4 stars for the overall story arc.
I found the first third of the book infuriating (see ranting status update). It seemed to settle down once Keith and Skyler got back together even though Skyler still was TSTL. Then things all went to shit at 87% when Keith just disappeared. The only acceptable answer was that Keith had been captured but, no, the FBI pulled him out and he didn't have the balls to let Skyler show more know he was okay. Bollocks, the Keith we'd come to know wouldn't have agreed to that. show less

Damn it! I need more!
I don't often read series unless they're finished or the drama is wrapped up nicely in a bow at the end of the book. This is because I'm an extraordinarily impatient and obsessive control freak who can't stand not knowing what will happen.
This book... I freaking loved it! Had I known it was part of a series which left some open questions to be answered in the sequels, I might have waited to read it, though. I need to check Goodreads more closely in future.
This book was show more everything I love in a story: sexual tension, great characterisation, fantastic dialogue, suspense, drama, a little smut... EVERYTHING! If I could give it ten stars, I would.
I'm buying the second novel in the series as soon as I can draw my husband's attention away from this month's bank statement then I'll be impatiently holding my breath until the final instalment. show less
