Set before season 7 of Buffy, Into the Light is a brief interlude covering what Spike was up to before returning to Sunnydale. Unfortunately, what he was doing wasn't all that interesting. There was a major continuity error within the first few pages, with Spike beating up a couple of humans--an impossibility since he would have still had the chip in his head and The First hadn't started controlling him yet. Still, it was fun to see Spike again and the art was really good.
This story takes place just after Spike gets his soul back. He tries to be the hero and save the day, but being the hero is tougher than he imagined. Spike breaks his only pair of boots while saving a cute girl. He doesn't have the money to buy another pair, then he realizes he is in a town where he stashed some loot from a robbery back when he was a bad soulless vampire. He can't get to the money because the building is now a shop and the owners don't appreciate him prying up the floor show more boards. While trying to start a relationship with the cute girl he sees a demon steeling a baby and then discovers the demon has been stealing young children and hiding them away.
I am very disappointed with this graphic novel. The artwork is great, but the writing is terrible. Some of Spike's actions seem out of character. The dialog is the worst part. James Marsters should stick to acting. show less

I need a witch...I need a nerd...I need a...a...librarian.
Oh, Spike, yes you do. I read this one because I didn't understand a reference to it in the newest Buffy graphic novel. And because I love Spike. I still don't understand the significance of the reference
The story was short and fun.
"Four tales of the most vile, murderous, and destructive -- not to mention codependent -- couple ever to visit Sunnydale." Spike and Dru were two of the best villains to appear on Buffy, and these adventures showcase them before that time. A fun read, with very good artwork.
