Well that was disappointing. A book very much in the vain of [b:Journey to the Center of the Earth|32829|Journey to the Center of the Earth (Extraordinary Voyages, #3)|Jules Verne|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1389754903s/32829.jpg|1924715], [b:The Lost World|10155|The Lost World (Professor Challenger, #1)|Arthur Conan Doyle|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1320504012s/10155.jpg|1098725], the [b:The Land That Time Forgot|403277|The Land That Time Forgot (Caspak, #1-3)|Edgar Rice show more Burroughs|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1328818810s/403277.jpg|1791151] etc.
However unlike Journey to the Center of the Earth this is a true Hollow Earth novel with all of the geological absurdity that that implies, which is one of the few interesting aspects of the work.

The other good points are that its russian which (on very rare occasions) makes it feel a little different. Also there's some decent repartee amongst our protagonists at times.
Finally there are a few moments of interest towards the end of the novel.

The other 80% or so is unfortunately pretty boring. The writing is basic, and it gets pretty repetitive. See interesting creature, shoot interesting creature, have creature for dinner, rinse, repeat.
Even our hero's actually get bored after a while, and if people are bored with dinosaurs then there's clearly something very wrong ;) .

Not well written enough compared to earlier works and not action packed enough to compare with the pulps.

Käesolev raamat on teadusmehest kirjaniku põnev ja eestikeelses kirjanduses ainulaadne ulmeromaan, milles jutustatakse kuuemehelise ekspeditsiooni tungimisest maakera sisemusse, kus on säilinud ammumöödunud ajastute asukad, alates ajaliselt kõige lähematest -- ürginimestest, kuni hoomamatus kauguses esinenud sauruste ja hiidputukateni. Oma uurimisreisil tuleb teadlastel läbi teha hulk kõige ohtlikumaid seiklusi.
Raamat on kirjutatud nii veenvalt -- tekstile aitab kaasa enam kui show more nelikümmend illustratsiooni --, et paljud lugejad on avaldanud soovi uuest ekspeditsioonist osa võtta või teinud üleskerkinud probleemide edasiseks lahendamiseks endapoolseid soovitusi. show less
Der Autor hat sich "Die Reise zum Mittelpunkt der Erde" von Jules Verne zum Vorbild genommen, und so langatmig und langweilig fällt auch seine Geschichte aus.
