This series. OMG guys! THIS SERIES!!! This is one self-contained mini series and is so delightful it hurts.
All female cast. All female creative team. Heavy implications of a trans character (and a perfect example for kids (for whom this book is written) of how to accept someone's transition and name change by just agreeing, changing your language, and moving on).
Very quick read but so worth it.

Very few graphic novels tend to get the "weird" formula down. They either resort to becoming completely nonsensical in an attempt to garner some laughs, or just don't have the imagination to carry a promising story all the way to the end. "Help Us! Great Warrior" does not have this problem in the least. It knows how to strike a balance between the unexplainable and the tangible, so you can follow the story and have fun while doing so. My only complaint is that bits of it feel a little weak show more on their own because they were obviously fleshed out more in the webcomic it came from (for example, who "Leo" is, where she came from, why she's staying with the Great Warrior, etc). But there is no real solution to that other than a) make a book for the entirety of the webcomic (awesome but probably not practical) or b) keep it as is and hope that it feeds into the "weird" formula. Which it sort of does. It's an otherwise small bump on an awesome GN.
Also, hijab-wearing character who's the literal incarnation of good and purity? Nice. show less
I really wanted to like this. The characters are so flipping adorable, and I like the general magical girl premise of it. But I feel this is definitely a comic intended for people already deeply familiar with the web series (which I didn't even know existed), and there was very little in it for me to connect with. The first chapter was very engaging and introduced the characters pretty well, but after that everything just fell apart. I am going to check out the web series, and maybe I'll show more revisit the book to see if I appreciate any of the chapters more after that, but overall, I was not impressed. show less
