Let me start off by saying that this is unlike anything else i've ever read. It was unique in so many ways, never have I read a chick lit book regarding a women who made her living as a "phone kitten", aka a sex operater. She decides upon one of her customers deaths that she needs to solve his murder, esp. because she happened to run into him the night of his death, and was one of the last people to see him alive. This book kept me on my toes, and was down-right hilarious.
I loved the show more relationship between the main character Emily aka Peyton on the phone, and her hot cop, love interest. Finding out he was a cop was a shock to me as the reader, and I definitly didn't see that coming. Through the ups and downs of her relationship and her investigation, Emily finds ways through it all, in a downright hilarious and interesting manner.
If you like Chick-Lit, then don't pass this book by, Marika Christian definitly created a unique, and page-turner story, that's unlike anything else i've ever read in general, let alone in this genre. show less

This is the cutest little book about a phone sex operator you could ever hope to read. Perfect for reading on a lazy Sunday afternoon on the front porch while drinking margaritas, which is exactly what I did. This book is an ideal balance of "mind candy" and murder mystery, and, it's true, many of the protagonist's pop culture references (she speaks frequently about snapping Gwyneth Paltrow like a twig) will make you embarrassingly laugh out loud. A great quick summer read!
So.much.fun.
This was an Amazon freebie. Full price is just 99 cents.
Fresh premise, good writing. It made me laugh. A lot.
It did not rely on profanities. It could be a bit outrageous, but the ridiculous was done for humor, not shock value.
I am assuming this is a self-pub. There were a few wrong words, "costumers" instead of "consumer" is the one that comes to mind, but I do remember that happening at least two other times.
There were a few missing words and a few words that just plain didn't show more belong, like they were left in by mistake in editing.
But all in all, well done. Although the blurb makes it seem like it could veer into the erotic, it doesn't. It is actually quite tame, a funny "mystery" premise with a side of sweet romance. The mystery is not that strong, but it gives a reason to follow our funny little heroine throughout her day.
This very much reminded me of Meg Cabot's Heather Wells series. show less

Not for me. It's a little too chick-lit - that is, the POV character spends most of her time worrying about her looks (particularly her weight), her clothes, and attracting men. The phone-sex job is mildly amusing, but when she decided that the best way to get a reporter job was to snoop into a murder, I couldn't take it any more. I like the characters as people, the writing is good, but the story just doesn't work for me.
