There are many things to like in this film (and Ray Stevenson is always great), but it somehow never really gels together enough to get beyond being a bit bland. I don't get properly invested in most of the character arcs, the protagonist's motivation after the accidental killing of a federal agent (which is a good one) is fairly unrelated to the main plot (leaving me emotionally distanced from th goings on), once Jigsaw's face gets hidden in prostethics he gets ironically flat and show more uninteresting, the humour is fun but too infrequent, etc., etc. The movie would also have been served well with more Soap and Micro, both of whom I greatly enjoyed. It's an OK way to spend two hours, and not a bad film for Marvel or Punisher completists, but the Thomas Jane film is a better movie (if a less faithful adaptation) and Netflix reboot is miles beyond them both. show less
Evie Pope and Rafael work in marketing at the same company in Chicago and become rivals, although they collaborate frequently. After 5 years, Evie believes they both want the same promotion to head of marketing, and she is determined to get it. She is very unhappy when a final client meeting ends with Rafael doing his usual thing, by winging the carefully orchestrated client meeting. After leaving the meeting, Evie is hit by a drunk driver and placed in a coma in the hospital. The next show more morning, she finds her "ghostlike" self waking up on Rafael's sofa in his apartment, while her corporal body is hooked up to life support in the hospital. Only he can see and talk to her. They make a plan to get her "ghostlike" self back into her body. Evie was raised by a mother who was less than caring. Her older sister, Annie, died at 16 years of age due to the mother's neglect of Annie's diabetes. As soon as possible, Evie left home to support herself, managing to get into college and graduate and get a good job in marketing. She plans every step of her life so she can keep moving forward and out of poverty. Evie is a very conflicted person and the constant conflict and ways she got even with Rafael got old very quickly. show less
