If I rate on accuracy, given this was in 2003, I'd probably not rate this high, but if I rate on images, imagination captivation, and how many times I reopened this book as a child, it would be a solid five stars. This book is gorgeous, cover, inside, the facts might be skewed now, it has some typos if I recall, and it's definitely not a pocket book that will serve you with subspecies and other things, only covering mainly prominent species.

But to a child, the illustrations are like pieces show more of gold. show less
