Now look... I'm a huge Beatle fan. About as big as they come without being a complete freak show. Went on a pilgrimage to Abbey Road. Know where the exact edits are in Strawberry Fields. The whole nine yards.

However, I just have a hard time getting with Beatle songs taught at University level, deconstructing each tune, analysing every key change, etc...

Lennon/Mcartney were legendarily great songwriters--made even BETTER in my eyes, even more amazing, in that they in all likelihood would show more have basically no idea what any of the stuff in this book means. They wrote chord changes and melody lines cause they thought they sounded good, or because they had just learned a new chord the day before and said 'wow, let's put that cool new chord in our new song!'... not because they were basing cadences on voice leading, or they were going after an aleatory vibe, or anything like that.

That being said, obviously Stevens is a wealth of knowledge and an expert in his field, so if this kind of thing does it for ya, than go for it, you could do worse.
