Journalist, Editor. Son of Philip Littell, one of the original editors of The New Republic, and Fanny Whittemore. He joined the staff of The New Republic in 1922 and became an editorial writer for The New York Post in 1927. He was later a columnist and a drama critic for The New York World. He joined The Reader's Digest in 1937 and eventually became senior editor. During World War II he was a war correspondent in England and Normandy, France. Author of the novel Candles in the Storm, It Takes All Kinds, a collection of human interest stories based upon his reports from Europe; co-authored the play Gather Ye Rosebuds with his brother-in-law, Sidney Coe Howard.
