Reviews
They are small, barren islands, the Faroes, and this is a spare set of tales. they cover the early history of the islands from the first settlement by Grim Kamban to the acknowledgement by the islanders of the sovereignty by king Magnus Olafsson "The Good" of Norway. Johnston's text is recovered from various sources but the existence of the Saga written as one narrative is well established. But like most sagas it is far more an historical novel than an actual history.
