Andrew Jackson (2) (1955–)

Interesting premise. An Englishman and his wife set out around the world to talk to old people. He paints evocative pictures of the places and people. Sometimes the jump from one place to the next takes a bit to work out where they are now. But I prefer this to lots of boring link passages. At times it is quite personal and I wonder how they both feel about these intimacies being in print now several years after the fact.

Mich hat das Buch nicht besonders begeistert. Die Bilder der alten Menschen sind toll, aber ihre Erzählungen nur Beiwerk der Selbstfindungsgeschichte des Autors. Auch wenn den beiden natürlich viel Dramatisches passiert, bei mir überwog das Desinteresse darüber, wer auf welcher Seite des Bettes schläft usw. Schade, denn die Idee des Buches ist genial und hätte mit einem besseren Autor richtig super werden können.
