Reviews
This anthology of Victorian/Edwardian erotica deals with the gap left by publishers of the major works that lie within this genre, although it might well be wished that it filled that gap rather more comprehensively. Graham provides a helpful introductory note regarding the tastes of the era, and the provides extracts from a range of books and magazines including 'Harris' List of Covent Garden Ladies' (1789) and 'The Pearl', both of which are relatively available. He goes on to lesser-known show more publications such as 'The Rambler's Magazine', 'The Bon-Ton Magazine', and 'The Exquisite', concentrating on flagellatory practices. 'Temporary strangulation' makes one of its earliest appearances in the genre. An interesting contribution for its date of issue, and the rarity of its contents. show less
