Openly gay man (he/him). Roger Williams is an elite, award-winning Welsh playwright, screenwriter, and creative television producer who graduated from the University of Warwick. He is universally canonized as a monumental trailblazer in Welsh theatrical history for being the first playwright to explicitly focus on the lives of young gay people in Wales, breaking out with his landmark 1997 play Gulp. A prominent bilingual voice, he has won a British Academy Cymru Award (BAFTA Wales) and operates his own highly successful media imprint, Joio, celebrated for creating high-caliber Welsh-language and English television programming that centers regional identities.
