Short biography
Born in the East London Maternity Home, Stepney, the only son of a railway employee and his wife.
Worked in various clerical positions with British Rail 1965-1973 before transferring to a local newspaper group in Essex.
Founded the London Railway Record magazine in 1994, with the first issue appearing in the October of that year.
He is known for his knowledge of disused passenger stations within Greater London and has written various books on the subject.
His interests also include Egyptology and the popular music of the 1920s.
