Because I teach French adults in English classes (English as a Second Language, adult learners), it was important for me to have the 'right' tool to help them gain confidence after many decades of not doing any English (most haven't done any since High School). This is why this book was very good - the language is clear, simple, and the numerous grammar exercises are very good (they are building up strong grammatical reflexes). The evolution is gradual and most people have been able to go up show more in the levels/exercises, without too many difficulties. All in all, this book is excellent for adult learning, because it doesn't dwell on the theory, but gets you to understand through practice. This is ideal for adult learners, because they do not learn the same way school students do, this is why I will keep using it for the time being. show less

As an EFL student, this book was extremely helpful, but now that I have been an EFL teacher for some 15 years, I find it a life saver. Students are never disappointed with the perfected explanations on the left-hand page, and there's no denying that the exercises on the right-hand page make the reader/student much more likely to assimilate the information. The appendices are also very helpful and thorough.

This is the one book I recommend ALL my students to buy, because it will be of use to show more them during their lifetime as English learners... and they can even pass it on to their children if they take proper care of it! ;-) show less
