They're here...Invasion of the Body Snatchers: A Tribute is a collection of articles and interviews edited by Kevin McCarthy and Ed Gorman that both celebrates and analyzes the original movie from 1956 as well as the two remakes produced in 1978 and 1997 along with the original novel The Body Snatchers by author Jack Finney. The book's introduction is penned by author Dean Koontz where he talks about the film's impact on him as a kid and includes his appreciation for the original book's show more author Jack Finney. Stephen King provides the opening essay going into even more detail about the original film's cultural touch points as well as an appreciation for author Jack Finney. Essays by other contributors cover author Jack Finney's career and other novels including Time and Again, look at the specific versions from 1978 and 1997, interviews with actress Dana Wynter, director Phillip Kaufmann, producer Robert H. Solo, screenwriter W.D. Richter, director Abel Ferrara and a wide ranging interview covering his life and career with actor Kevin McCarthy. Even though I have only seen the original film, which I have revisited over the years, I found all the essays and interviews entertaining and informative especially the closing interview with Kevin McCarthy which was surprisingly poignant and I recommend it to anyone who would like to learn more about a story and film that remain frightening and relevant to each generation.
