- Morris Rosenfeld was born to a Jewish family in Budapest, Hungary, then part of the Austria-Hungarian Empire, He emigrated to the USA in 1887 with his parents Adolph and Lena Kendal Rosenfeld and settled in Brooklyn, New York. Although his parents wanted him to become a doctor, Rosenfeld was determined to become an artist. As a teenager, he studied art at Cooper Union. He started taking maritime photographs in 1898, and won a $5.00 prize. Rosenfeld became an apprentice to Edwin Levick, a noted maritime photographer of the time, and eventually became renowned himself for his maritime work, especially his photos of yachting. He is best known for capturing the America's Cup over the years, especially for recording the growing role of women in yacht sailing. His most book is The Story of American Yachting (1958).
