I received Fifty Shades of Sparking Vampires with Dragon Tattoos That Play Starvation Games by Lacy Maran and Kevin Michael as a member giveaway from Library Thing. This book is hilarious! I really, honestly could not stop laughing! This book contains spoofs of just about every popular genre out there. I can even say that this book has a better plot than the popular books it spoofs. (Certainly better written and more interesting.)
I especially loved this book because I hate sparkly vampires show more and brooding werewolves! I also can't stand books about beautiful rich people who play silly sex games!
This book truly is a breath of fresh air in a stale book market. show less

Short parody based on the Twilight Series. A "dumbass whiny girl with no personality" falls for a hunky vampire (in case you miss the fact that he is good-looking, be is also named Hunky). The feeling is mutual, as he falls for her too. Despite her shortcomings, a werewolf with a six-pack is also in love with her. The similarities with Twilight are clear.
The parallels extend to the writing style: grammar is optional, words are repetitive, and the simplistic style would end up grating if the show more book was much longer. The satire is made explicit in comments that refer to lame story lines and to decisions made with no verification of facts.
The title could be better: there are so many vampire tales that can be parodied, that something like the Sunrise Vampires - to make the links to Twilight clearer.
The overall effect is that the book is hysterical. I kept reading lines to my husband, who was also cracking up. The author takes Twilight's clear shortcomings and plays them for all they are worth.
A quick and funny read.

Hilarious! This may be the best "parody" book that has ever been published. Loosely based off the Twilight novels, pared down and straight to the point, Maran recounts the drama in humorous and albeit, (twi-hards look away) honest way, it still is enough to read even at 24 pages. I recommend this book to everyone, even those who actually like to read the Twilight books. Well done!

I am one of the few who actually enjoyed the Twilight books. I don't think they were award-winning quality, but they were decently written and told an entertaining story. That being said, I LOVED this parody of the series. Short and to the point, it covers all the main plot points of the Twilight Series in the space of a short novella. With character names like Hunky McBrooding and Second Fiddle, these stories provide no end of entertainment!
