Just tidying up my backlog of pre-GR read books.
Laura Hird's collection was terrific, edgy, grim, dark, almost nightmarish or surreal depending on your orientation. Read it 1997 or 1998, imported from Scotland, naturally.
I loved these stories at the time for their sharp imagery, turning the grim impoverished Scottish social landscape into something special. Part of that little renaissance I suppose people will call it promoted by big money from Canongate. Occasionally people care enough to show more stump up the cash. show less
