Usability Engineering: Scenario-Based Development of Human Computer Interaction (Interactive Technologies) by Mary Beth Rosson
The organization around tradeoffs reflects the reality of practical work, and the continuous example makes the contents easy to understand. I'm just reading, so I cannot say much yet, but I especially liked the few pages historical overview of usability in software development: concise, informative - good to know the roots of the discipline. So far, five stars.

Excellent particularly for developers learning about trade-offs in design.
