I first found Greenfield’s work in a collection of poems about films. This collection really showcases her range. I found her subtle, apt humor balanced the pathos of her topics. Some of the poems react to news stories or social media, while others are elegies about motherhood and grief. All of them are accessible, heartfelt, and nuanced. I will definitely be searching out her previous collections.
These stories and snapshots do what strong, relevant and political poetry does -- hold up a mirror that shows us our true selves without trying to cover the flaws. A taste of strong medicine washed down with crisp lines and sparkling imagery.
