Interesting, well illustrated, pretty good bibliography - but it's not really "The Anatomy of a City" as claimed in the subtitle.

Instead, it's a recounting of her OWN explorations of NYC's underground. Which is certainly interesting, but feels lighter than a comprehensive study.

(Which I suppose amounts to the standard reviewer's failure of deducting points because the book in hand is not the book you wanted.)
I found this book vaguely unsatisfactory; there was either not enough history of the infrastructure of New York or not a sufficient number of personal tales of adventure by the author. It probably should have been a full-fledged coffee-table book concentrating on pictures.
