2990 Victoria's Year: English Literature and Culture, 1837-1838, by Richard L. Stein (read 21 Jun 1997) This book talked about Tennyson's Locksley Hall, and of Oliver Twist, and of the French Revolution by Carlyle, and of Darwin's book about his trip --not till 1845 called The Voyage of the Beagle--but published under another title. These are all interesting things, but the book was a chore to read, because I couldn't get interested and it did not seem important. He spent a lot of time on a show more painting by John Orlando Perry called "A London Street Scene" which was painted about 1837 and a painting by J.M.W. Turner called "The Fighting 'Temeraire' Being Towed To Her Last Berth To Be Broken Up" painted about 1839. The book talked of interesting things. show less
