Good update of the late works and life of Turner with good expert articles and catalogue of exhibition in Tate (2014); Getty (2015); Young Fine Arts Museum San Francisco (2015). Best short update about opinions and research: Sam Smiles, Turner: In and Out of Time. 'The construction fo a Modernist lineage for Turner, based on his last works, is therefore unwise and unhelpful.' Of course that is correct although one cannot escape comparing it with some impressionists, esp. Monet studies of show more different lightscapes at different (times of the) day.
