This is such a cute book. I didn't expect demons to be cute, but, that's what these guys are. There is also enough serious warrior business, some mysterious goings on and a few ominous threats to keep the tension up. I found the mix between humor and beginning-of-series-plotline really appealing. And the way demons find their mates? I laughed my head off. That is a great concept!!!
Chris is small for a demon, but thinks himself a warrior. Needless to say, he manages to overestimate his show more abilities significantly, which almost gets him into more trouble than can fit between two book covers, so to speak. He is cute, full of energy, and the 'typical' smaller mate that needs protection - mostly from his own antics in this case.
Hondo is a big, bad demon warrior - except where Chris is concerned. They've been the best of friends for 100 years, so getting used to being mates will take some doing. In typical alpha male/dominant fashion he growls a lot, but he's got his heart in the right place.
I really liked these first two characters, and am looking forward to finding out more about this demon world, including the hinted at links to the underworld and the mysterious crystal. show less

This was a fun mixture between humor, a cute hero who is desperately looking for affection, an alpha second hero who discovers his mate's personality is more important than his race, and, oh, yes, more revelations about the overall story.
Gabby is one of those suppressed guys who nevertheless remain fighters. He is too cute for words, and his constant worrying (no surprise based on the way he's been treated so far) combined with his ability to speak faster than a flying bullet made him really show more likeable for me.
Montana faces the fact that his mate is half-vampire and, predictably, flips out. Thankfully he also recovers quickly and the rest of the drama in this book comes from outside revelations about the vampires, the addition of a few Elven and the 'reactivation' of an old enemy.
While the addition of yet another potential male pregnancy came as somewhat of a surprise, I don't have a problem with the concept and thought it was quite funny how there are now two mates able to reproduce. I wonder what's next? show less

This third volume of the series returns the focus to the overall series storyline, adding some harrowing events and interesting revelations about the reasons why the crew has a bounty on its collective head. All of this while still managing to tell the story of Livewire, the engineer, and Imlay, the somewhat standoffish doctor. The tone here is a lot more serious than in the first two books, but that goes with the story; the humor isn’t lost, either. It comes back in the form of Gigi and show more Pax lightening the mood at just the right moments, before anyone can end up feeling glum.
Imlay was a bit of an enigma in the last book, and I had trouble understanding him. That totally changes in this book, as he comes out of his shell. Not just because half the story is told from his point of view, and we simply get to know him better, but also because he truly opens up and develops as a character. Having to see his mate go through what Livewire has to endure and being able to help him is a big part of his growth. Natural curiosity does the rest.
Livewire not only goes through some major suffering, he also reveals some secrets about his shifter nature. I admired his resilience, and even though it takes him a long time to heal, he never gives up. Admittedly, as an alpha male it would be difficult to do so, but the increasing feelings he develops for Imlay are really what pulls him back from the brink.
I really liked how Imlay and Livewire, two wounded souls who both have issues with being touched, work through their problems. They manage to form a very close partnership and I loved that Imlay wasn’t a weaker partner, even ends up going on a dangerous mission that helps them all come a step closer to solving the riddle of their persecution. If you like futuristic adventure stories that take place aboard space ships that seem in constant need of repair and if hot man-on-shifter action is what you’re looking for, you may like this book. show less

This eighth volume in the series takes a step into the unknown, in the sense that the mating that causes all the emotional upheaval in this one is between two guests aboard the Lady Blue. But that, as intense as it was, isn’t all. Several revelations about some of the players in this space-drama later, I am now beginning to understand what is behind the hunt for the crew of the Lady Blue. The authors have been very good at keeping enough secrets each time, not to mention adding new ones, show more to keep me interested in the series.
Shane has a very tough life aboard the Lady Blue,, even though he is physically safe – most of the time. After having been rescued form Old Earth by his brother Mo, Shane finds himself in a future that is beyond his comprehension, attracted to a general who doesn’t seem to want him, and stuck with the knowledge that pizza is no longer a dish anyone is familiar with. That last one is easy to fix for him (since, at least, ovens still exist), but his unwavering attraction to the general gets him into a lot of trouble. Not that he lets that stop him. For once in his life, or so he has decided, he will not let others tell him what he needs. And that includes not only his brother, but the general himself.
Vedic Merrick, the insufferably arrogant general who now suddenly finds himself hunted by the same people who are after the crew of the Lady Blue finds his match in Shane. I had no idea what type of creature he would turn out to be, but let me tell you, it was a surprise well worth waiting for. Didn’t see it coming at all, but then, the general has always been a man who plays his cards close to his chest. I loved the way he ended up taking care of Shane – even though I am still somewhat upset that it took him so long!
This book almost feels as if it kicks off a new phase of the adventure, and one that, from the looks of it so far, will be at least as interesting as this series. The bigger picture that emerged will delight the conspiracy addicts amongst you, while the sizzling hot physical attraction between each of the couples that each story focuses on makes things even more interesting. If you like space adventures, crews that discover they may not be as perfectly supportive as they thought they were, and if you’re looking for between the sheets, or rather in-the-bunk, action, you may like this book. show less
