This review comes "a long time after downloading" because it took me _forever_ to get through. I had a hard time investing in the characters, particularly Dante/Elias because I couldn't figure on what was going on with him long enough to sympathize with him.

A book filled with graphic imagery, for example: "His head pounded and revolved heavily on his neck; it felt like a gourd with the pulp hollowed out and replaced by buckshot." Sometimes I felt this was beautiful and poetic. Other times, show more trying too hard.

At one point during the book, this conversation took place: “What are you reading?”
She frowned at the book on her lap and shrugged. “I don’t know. Some weird, convoluted story that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.”
“That’s why I never read books. Masturbation is quicker and has a more gratifying story arc.
This sums up what I thought of the first 80% of the book.

There is a decent payoff at the end, if you can make it that far. I wouldn't have, except I got it for free in exchange for a review. I think the author might not be very pleased with the deal he made with me. This review is just about as disjointed as the book was.

Henry is a boring, average corporate square whose life is changed forever when he meets the unpredictable Rosa. This book really surprised me, I'll admit. Henry is extremely unlikeable, Rosa is extremely unlikeable - I didn't expect this to end up something I'd like. And yet everything played out in a way that wasn't overly annoying. I felt like there was a definite Manic Pixie Dream Girl thing going on early on, but it managed to struggle past that.

this was an absolutely fascinating book. it started slowly, then moved on and on through henry's life.

it seemed to me like it moved from beige beige beige up through tones of brown, and finally till a few pastels colored his world.

a beige man with a beige life meets a woman who lives in full color, and while he changes most, i thought she toned down a little in response to him.

this book just catches you unaware and hauls you along for the ride.

I spent a great deal of time being confused while reading this book. I do not like being confused. I do not like having to reread passages to figure out what is going on. I've decided to put this book down, and reread it from the beginning at another time. Perhaps right now my mind is not clear enough to fully appreciate the author's tale. I'm giving this book three stars because the idea of the story is very appealing. Maybe when I have time to sit quietly and read without interruption I'll show more get more out of this book. show less
