How to Be a Super Villain: A colorful and fun children's picture book; entertaining bedtime story by Rachel Yu
Summary:
Master of Awesomeness has taken it upon himself to teach the world how to be a super villain. He is extremely knowledgable in this, given that he IS Master of Awesomeness. He gives step by step instructions:
1. You must have a tricked out, super cool, and super secret hideout/lair
2. You have to have a cool evil name.
3. You have to have a good looking costume and it MUST have: cape, boots, mask, and logo. All of these items must match.
4. You have to figure out your evil laugh. It is show more very important.
5. You must have the latest and greatest gadgets.
6. A laboratory is essential for mixing chemicals.
7. A chair/throne is the best place to devise your evil plans.
8. Butler to clean up after you.
9. Unfortunately, being a super villain means you have some kind of weakness but under NO circumstance should you tell anyone what it is.
10. You must have a super hero archenemy.
In the end, it is important to devise your evil plan and hatch it upon the world. You may not succeed, but you can NOT give up. Evil must prevail. And if you do fail, go back to your super cool hideout and start again!
Personal Response:
This was a fantastic read. It had great humor and sucked me in from the moment I started reading it. It is geared towards 3rd-5th grade reading, because there is quite a bit of text. The illustrations were incredible.
Classroom Extensions:
I would have the students create their own Super Hero/Super Villain graphic novel.
I would have the students dress up in their favorite Super Hero/Super Villain costumes and I would encourage them to create their own.
I would break the students up into literature circles and have each group read a different graphic novel, then present it to the class. show less

How to be a Superhero is a book narrated by Superiorman as he instructs children on different things they should work on in order to become a superhero themself. Superiorman takes us through his home and gives examples of the super heroes and villians in his world and their different traits. The book ends with Superiorman being called for help by the town.
This book was very imaginative and I liked how it was an instructional book for a fictitious job.
One thing this book could be used in the show more classroom for is to have the children write their own back stories and decide what kind of powers they have a why. Another way this story could be used is to engage the children into thinking about ways they could be superheroes (great manners, cleaning up garbage) and then deciding on a service project the class can do. show less

This was adorable thought some of the words were a little big for what is supposed to be a book for 4-8 year old though.
A Wolf Pup's Tale (A Beautifully Illustrated Children's Picture Book; Perfect Bedtime Story) by Rachel Yu
This was a slightly unique story about the wolf pup's adventures. He got separated from his mother which led to some exciting, and sometimes frightening, adventures.
Delight your "little" ones with this fun story about the wolf pup's efforts to find his mother again. The illustrations are very colorful and expertly done.
The book would be a good reading practice for an advanced elementary student. It would be a fun story for them to read to younger children.
Toddlers and early elementary age show more children will enjoy the story and pictures. show less
