This is a strictly technical book containing a large formulary and in-depth descriptions of categories of developers as well as information on specific developers. The author provides solid information based on scientific study on each of the developers presented in the book, which are each grouped by type. Each chapter of the book covers a different type of developer, whose characteristics are described in detail at the beginning of the chapter. The characteristics of specific developers show more are included in the chapter and are comprehensive, containing both commercial developers and historic formulas. If you develop you own film, or have an inrerest in doing so, this book is an invaluable reference. show less

While not as specific as its 'brother' book, the Film Developing Cookbook, the Darkroom Cookbook goes into paper developers as well as film developers. Formulas for developers are included as are detailed descriptions of the characteristics of each developer featured. This is a good general reference book for the darkroom worker, although if you are more interested in film developing you might prefer to also get a copy of the Film Developing Cookbook.
