I had no great expectations about this book, but I found it an easy pleasant read. I wonder if it is some what autobiographical. David Kelly wrote this in 2003 and doesn't seem to have written anything since.
It is the story of Alex and his unconventional family. He was adopted at 2 weeks old and was joined by several other siblings both adopted and fostered and eventually his mother gives birth to twins.
Alex, who is gay, has returned home to look after his mother who is dying of cancer. show more Through his memories, we relive his childhood. Despite Alex encountering sexual and racial prejudice, incest and divorce during his childhood, the story remains upbeat. show less
