This is one of those books that I couldn't wait to read, mostly because of the premise and wonderful cover. First, let me start off by saying that the entire trilogy was inventive and impressive for anyone, let alone someone of this author's age. The characters pulled me in and I have thought about this book more than once - I've even considered re-reading it.
That being said, my biggest challenges were in the emotions of the character. I felt as though Laura was detached - this is in part show more because a majority of the emotions are told and happen in internal though as opposed to dialogue or physical reactions. My other challenge was in the romance romance romance romance Laura and Logan. You aren't actually even sure there is a romance until the end of the book and then the kiss is cut short.
As a reader, I would have liked a little more emotion and romance in the book. Aside from this, it was an interesting storyline and I'd be interested to see what this author writes next. show less

I must admit I struggled with this book the characters were superficial almost 2 dimensional. Just when I would get to an area of potential interest one of the many typos would draw me out of the story. The overall storyline had potential and I felt myself continuing to read hoping the author would explore things (characters, scenes, background etc.) in more detail but that never happened. The main thing I feel is missing is a reason for Logan (the male main character) to break the rules for show more Laura (female main character). The author does not convey a strong emotional connection between the two it appears to have been a whim. As this is the basis for the entire 3/4 of the rest of the book it just doesn’t make sense.
I truly liked the outline of the story in general and feel that in a different author's hands this could have been a great book. My advice to the author is to slow down think out the details of each character each scene. It is easier to remove details in editing than to add them.
I cannot recommend this book to my readers. I will probably read at least one more book in this series because I want to see if the author improves with experience. show less

Fantastic book cover, mediocre book.
While I liked the overall story line, this book felt very rushed and was riddled with very jarring mistakes. I am a very forgiving person with typos and small mistakes, but I nearly put the book down when I was jarred out of the story by too many issues.
I think the author has promise and imagination. Her story was lovely and could have been amazing had she simply taken her time with it.

I don’t think that I will ruin anything here by mentioning that Logan, the new and mysterious student to Laura’s school, is a vampire. You’d have to be blind not to have seen that coming by the first few chapters of the book. My students know that I am not a big fan of vampire sagas but I truly don’t believe that my rating is based on the content of this book. It simply wasn’t exciting enough or interesting enough or special enough to stand next to any of the other paranormal plots show more out there. show less
