Very good and easy to read biography of on of the most successful and controversial admirals of WW2. Insightful with research sufficient to sustain his analysis of some very controversial Halsey decisions; at Leyte Gulf and during two typhoons. If you only have time to read one Halsey book, I would recommend this one by James Merrill.
5685. William Tecumseh Sherman, by James m. Merrill (read 9 Apr 2020) I have long wanted to read a biography of Sherman and this book came into my possession. It was published in 1971 and is kind of old-fashioned. It spends very little time on battle and deployment, but lots on Sherman's personal life. Sherman's wife was a good Catholic but when Sherman's son, Tom, after finishing Yale, decided to become a priest, Sherman became very angry and for years was hostile toward his son..
