Susanna J. Sturgis

I've been waiting for Sturgis' novel for years, and it was worth waiting for. A community of year-round residents of Martha's Vineyard do battle with violent drunks, homophobes, rude out-of-towners, and their own souls, while extending a helping hand to anyone who asks. These are people you will be glad you met, who deal with their problems like adults, not to mention with a certain amount of humor and self-awareness. The plot is engrossing and keeps you turning the pages. There's some hot, show more if curtain-drawing, male/male sex. Whether you love the Vineyard or, like me, have never been there, I think the characters will pull you into their own world in a way that will make you see the place differently.
