Within interaction design, a frequently debated issue has been how to integrate sociology and systems development in fruitful ways. Much of the discussion is kept on the level of design methods; Wellman and the authors contributing to this volume, however, illustrate a different approach. The book is concerned with general sociological analyses of communities and social networks, and how such structures change in contemporary society.
