I was disappointed with this standard textbook for undergraduate children's literature class. The text authors cannot decide if reading objectionable elements will negatively affect the children reading them (they say no, unless it's chauvinistic or racial stereotypes.) I thought the book lists were weak (a list of Newbery awards would be cheaper and about the same content), and they were not annotated, a fact which could have redeemed the book entirely. Honey for a Child's Heart would be a show more better choice, since its lists are annotated and more complete. show less
This textbook provides an overview of children's literature with a particular focus on history.
