What a fantastic read! Bought the freebie and was hooked from the start. I felt like I was in Louisiana--sights, smells, and textures, and seeing the shadows between the cypress and tupelo trees. Slowly suspenseful (everything in the South is slow, after all) the story builds and kept me reading late into the night. Off to grab book two!
I have had this in my tbr file for quite awhile and when I started it I had no idea what it was about.
The story sucked me in immmediately and I read it non stop until finish. It was a very quick read. It seemed like novel length but the font was rather large so it went quickly.
I liked the characters and the premise. It was a little different for me because I usually avoid ghost stories. And this was and wasn't a ghost story. While not a scary book I did have a couple nervous moments show more especially when they were at Carrie's house I got a little chill. Also in the barn. A couple of those scenes remind me of the feeling you get when you hear a noise and know you need to investigate. But can not quite get up your nerve and then the cat jumps out and scares you. Those type of moments that quickly pass and feel silly when it is over.
I liked the book and am debating the 2nd one. I want to know what happens and I will get it eventually, I just dont feel the need to race out and read it. Part of the reason is because I have learned reading lots of a series rapidly you get a little burned out on the story.
I would definitely read this, the romance is not overt but it is there. show less

I think the plot is interesting, but the writing is poor and ruined this book for me. The writing was wooden, boring, not interesting at all. Maybe the author can improve with effort.
It started out very clipped. The writer stated that Leigh would walk or turn or tell you what they saw like a tree with Spanish moss just with no adjectives or good flow....it seemed disconnected. As they wrote the story, though, they found better ways to describe the action in a way that you could feel you were there. Before, it felt like reading a transcript with no emotion, but it developed somewhat. Hopefully with the next book the writer will make the flow more vivid and involved for show more the readers. show less
