Daria Olivier was the pen name of Daria Daisy Vitalia Kamenka, born in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1935, she married "Jean" Marc de Cayeux de Sénarpont, a French art critic, with whom she had four children and lived in Paris. Under the nom de plume Daria Olivier, she wrote book reviews, biographies, and novels on Russian and French figures from history. She also translated works between Russian and French.

4858. The Burning of Moscow 1812, by Daria Olivier translated from the French by Michael Heron (read 7 Sep 2011) This book tells the story of the Russian campaign in 1812, and one is exasperated that Napoleon did not listen to the advisers who urged him to leave Moscow before he did. While Napoleon was an aggressor I cannot view him as harshly as he probably deserves, and I found myself wishing he had left Moscow long before he did. Is this because my great-great-grandfather's brother was show more with him in the Russian campaign? He survived, but one feels for the many French men and horses who froze to death in that tragic retreat show less
