Although this is not my first exposure to Nick Seluk's humor and heart/brain comics, it is my first set that is together in one book. AND IT'S GREAT! I love this compilation just as much as his funny updates and little strips I see on-line. I always love his humor between the heart and brain! [a:Nick Seluck|20081060|Nick Seluck|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] is the perfect perspective and voice to help me find the humor in myself and show more the little quirks of my heart wanting one thing and my brain knowing better. I love that he touched on topics like anxiety, work life/balance, self care and even forgiving yourself (and finding the homor in your own flaws). It's a great mix of funny but also loving and I must admit I'd missed this little heart and brain and loved spending the evening enjoying their little world.

My Brain: "OK, let's go through our library acquisitions and catalogue them in LibraryThing before starting to read."
My Heart: *closes the Heart and Brain collection* "All done! That was great!"
Heart and Brain is an adorable collection of comics featuring sentient organs: methodical, careful Brain, usually advocating patience and prudence; and joyful, intense Heart, intent on living for the fun and not the responsibility. I whipped through this collection much more quickly than I intended. show more It was meant to be something to savour over a few days, but instead I devoured it in the space of an hour. I particularly enjoyed the comics where Brain was keeping Lars awake at night or torturing him with instant, perfect recall of every embarrassing moment ever, at the least appropriate time. Here are a few of my favourites as presented on The Awkward Yeti's website:
Brain keeping Lars awake:

And there are definitely days where I identify with this one (not just Fridays):

I am looking forward to reading more from Heart and Brain, either in book or webcomic form. show less

This is the first basically-cartoon book I have ever bought. It's also the first in a long time that I bought anything from a new bookstore. But it didn't look like this would end up in a used bookstore anytime soon, and even the used ones online retained the newbie price (if shipping is included). So now I gladly leave these glossy pages next to my bed for happy reading.
Or, as my communications instructors would say, I'm no longer a consumer but a costumer--I fell in to The Awkward Yeti's show more marketing strategy. Oh well. I'm not immune.
Heart and Brain essentially introduced me to webcomics and comics in general--others never resonated with me. However, The Awkward Yeti (hint hint, the bookstores list the author as Nick Seluk and not The Awkward Yeti, in case you're trying to find it on alphabetical shelves) integrates science and philosophy in the way most people experience it in everyday life. Not only that, but as a chronically ill person with multiple uncooperative organs, I've always joked with myself and nurses about the organs' personalities and why they squabble. This is exactly how the Heart and Brain comics operate, and I love it.
Many of the skits seem random, like filler episodes in between arcs or your favorite TV show, while the rest follow a logical sequence. Having a hard time waking up in the morning? Stay tuned, because Heart and Brain take turns trying to get Lars (The Awkward Yeti character) out of bed. Time for coffee? Read a series of coffee comics. Talking about art in one? The next is a scene in a museum. Later in the book the lot try to sleep, and fail for Heart and Brain reasons. As they experience more in life, i.e. the pages of the book, Brain contemplates more of big issues and Heart has slightly more mature responses. I love the consideration the author put into organizing the scenes.
A final perk I appreciate: I read the book wondering where my favorite one would appear...or if. It was the very last one. The climax. I'd imagine that one is one of The Awkward Yeti's favorites as well. show less

I love these Heart & Brain comics, and the addition of other organs just makes it funnier (and more poignant - I have never felt sorry for a gallbladder before!). I'm looking forward to the next volumes.
